Legal Defense Fund - Does anyone know about this joint fund with Boulder Council to fight fracking?

The legal defense fund was brought up at the May 1, 2018 Lafayette Council Meeting as an example of something concrete the city is working on to fight fracking in the midst of heavy criticism from citizens who feel the council’s move to focus on regulating fracking is a betrayal of the promise to stop fracking in the town. Merrily Maza championed Lafayette Climate Bill of Rights to protect Lafayette against fracking and is the only councilor who is for a complete ban on fracking in the town.

The other councilors are for moderation and working within the system as is, as opposed to taking a stand against fracking in an all-or-nothing fashion. The thought is that an outright ban of fracking will be dead on arrival. The catch-22 is it might take a movement backed by the city and media coverage for an outright ban to have the best chance.

Turns out legal defense fund refers to money set aside for lawsuits if oil and gas sues the cities, which they could still do if not happy with the regulations they are to comply with.
